Devotees believe that by bathing in the Ganges one is freed from sins liberating her/him from the cycle of birth and death.

Its roots go back to ancient scriptures, where it's believed that the celestial nectar of immortality, known as Amrit, spilled from a kumbh (pitcher) at four sacred locations, including Prayagraj. So, the Kumbh Mela represents an eternal journey for spiritual fulfillment and renewal.
